Storm Village was established in 1989 and has continued to grow ever since.
Storm Retirement Village has signed a building contract for their new aged care facility at Cundletown to be called “Bishop Tyrrell Place”. The successful tenderer is Ware Building Pty Ltd of Tuncurry and work has already started.
The new facility will be an extension of the work of Storm Retirement Village which functions under the auspices of the Anglican Diocese of Newcastle. Bishop Tyrrell Place will bring the total number of beds operated by Storm Village to almost 200.
The new facility, to cost about $14.5million, will be a state of the art, 75 bed building with the most modern features and conveniences. The building will be financed from Storm’s own reserves and a loan from the Commonwealth Bank.
There will be care for low care, high care and dementia residents with all single rooms with ensuite facilities. Based on a “double doughnut” shape, all residents rooms will have delightful rural or garden views.
The eleven hectare site at Cundletown adjacent to the Manning Valley Anglican College will have its main entrance from Princes Street and the building project is being managed on behalf of the Storm Village board by Coffey Projects of Newcastle.
The first residents will be admitted in August 2010 and it is expected that there will be a high demand for places because of the rapidly ageing population of the Manning district. There will be about 100 new jobs when the project is complete. Any enquiries regarding job or residency can be made to the Storm Retirement Village.
