Our Cathedral Lights Up

Christ Church Cathedral is once again the beacon of light above the City of Newcastle – at least for a while – following a generous donation from The PSI Group.

Mike Tyler, Bishop Farran, Dean Rigney and Graham Poole.
Last week Christ Church Cathedral received a substantial donation of $10,000 from the group, to assist with the costs of keeping the Cathedral alight at night.
The plight of the Cathedral came to the attention of The PSI Group recently, when The Dean of Christ Church Cathedral, The Very Reverend James Rigney confirmed that the increasing cost of general upkeep of lights combined with energy consumption costs meant that the Cathedral could no longer afford to be lit overnight.
Deputy Chairman of The PSI Group, Mr Mike Tyler, put forward a full proposal to The PSI Group Board of Directors.
“Christ Church Cathedral is a Newcastle icon and it seemed a great shame that it should be in darkness when is such a beautiful building and one that the City of Newcastle is very proud", said Mr Tyler.
"I was delighted with the strength of support shown by the Chairman of the Board, Mr Graham Poole, and fellow Board Members towards the proposal and we put our hands up to help.”
Bishop Brian Farran is overjoyed at the donation.
“We are so grateful to the PSI Group. The Cathedral is an icon for Newcastle and the Hunter as a whole and this donation will assist the Cathedral to invest in the infrastructure changes necessary to allow the lighting costs to be reduced and for us to be able to have the Cathedral lit throughout the night once again,” said Bishop Brian.
“This will be a long term project for the Cathedral Parish but this is an amazingly generous show of support from The PSI Group and will enable us to move forward.”
