Training for people in Childrens' MinistryCatechesis of the Good ShepherdThe Anglican parish of Taree will be hosting a 5 day training event in July of this year to train people as teachers of this Anglo/Catholic program designed for young children. The program itself was originally developed in Italy in 1954 by Dr. Sofia Caveletti who applied the educational principles of Maria Montesorri. It has since spread around the world and is used by many liturgical traditions (Lutheran, Anglican/Episcopal, Roman Catholic, Presbyterian, and Methodist) as well as in schools throughout the world. A downloadable form to register for this course is supplied below. Creative SRE ConferenceOver 160 people come from all parts of the diocese and beyond – some from as far away as Parramatta – to the CCRESST Conference, to learn from the experts how to be more creative in teaching SRE. From the welcome and opening worship led by Bishop Brian, the scene was set for a day rich in diversity and promise. The presenters provided a smorgasbord – a great feast of ideas which inspired and delighted the participants. Rina and Carole modeled various different teaching techniques which were engaging and dynamic. The fast-paced Christmas craft workshop was highly valued as was the drama workshop. The peaceful setting of St John’s Centre, Morpeth provided an idyllic space for socializing over coffee and lunch. For those who didn’t make it to the conference, but are now wishing they did, a DVD will soon be available from CEY Ministries, at a cost of $20 (or a special rate of $15 for conference attendees). As one of the attendees commented: “It was AMAZING – so valuable to me – the missing link to my scripture classes” One of the highlights of the day was a special presentation by students from Morpeth Public School. They performed several songs from Richard Coote’s new Christmas CD “Deep Love”, and demonstrated how beautifully these could form an assembly item. Copies of the CD and sheet music are available from Catholic Missions ph 4979 1140. This day testified that the body of Christ works best when all are involved: no matter the denomination. CCRESST would like to thank all those who helped make it such a memorable occasion.
