Assistant Bishop of Newcastle, Bishop on the Central Coast
Born: 1943
Education: Completed a Bachelor of Arts at St John’s Durham 1976; Master of Arts 1977; Licentiate in Theology, Scholar in Theology, Diploma in Religious Education Ridley College ACT 1966.
Ministry: Bishop Graeme was ordained Priest in 1967 in the Diocese of Bendigo, serving as a Curate in Bendigo (1966-70), Vicar at Pyramid Hill (1970-73), Rector at Kyabram (1977-82). From 1973-1977 Bishop Graeme ministered in the United Kingdom as a Curate in London (1973-74) and a part-time Curate in Durham (1974-77). After returning to Australia he served as Incumbent St Paul’s Malvern, in the Diocese of Melbourne (1982-87).
Bishop Graeme is a respected theologian and has held a number of diverse positions within the Anglican Church of Australia including: Visiting Lecturer at Ridley College (1982-90); Examining Chaplain (1986-97); Area Dean Camberwell (1990-96); Visiting Lecturer Trinity College (1990-93).
He was consecrated Bishop in November 2000 at Christ Church Cathedral, Newcastle. Bishop Graeme is the Assistant Bishop of Newcastle and Bishop on the Central Coast, NSW. As Chair of the Central Coast Regional Council Bishop Graeme provides leadership and strategic direction to clergy and all who minister on the Central Coast. He is the Spiritual Director of the Diocesan Cursillo; chair of the Diocesan Environmental Commission; Visiting lecturer at St John’s College, Morpeth; Chair of the Examining Chaplains Panel; Convenor of Post Ordination and a member of the Cathedral Chapter.
Committees and Memberships: Anglican Co-Chair of AUSTARC [Australian Anglican-Roman Catholic Conversation], 2000 - current. He is the Bishop Visitor of the Sisters of the Church (2004); Episcopal Consultant of the Oratory of the Good Shepherd and Bishop Protector (2004) for a Solitary Religious (2003 - current). Chair of Advisory Council for Religious Life in Australia (2005)
