Dean of Newcastle

Expressions of Interest

The position of Dean of Newcastle will become vacant at the end of this year with the retirement of the Very Reverend Graeme Lawrence OAM. Dean Lawrence has held this prestigious position for twenty-four years and his ministry in the city of Newcastle has won him many accolades including the award of Freeman of the City of Newcastle. 

The Dean of Newcastle leads a vibrant Cathedral made up of five large weekend congregations that provide services of worship for young families, a 1662 Eucharist, a Sung Eucharist and Sung Evensong. The Cathedral worship is contemporary catholic in style. 

The Cathedral has an outstanding choir under the direction of Mr. Peter Guy. Many of the young adult members of the Cathedral Choir study at the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music. 

The Dean is a pre-eminent citizen of Newcastle with an extensive ministry to the community. Newcastle sees Christ Church Cathedral as its spiritual home with many community services being held at the Cathedral. 

Christ Church Cathedral is an icon for Newcastle – it is truly the city’s Cathedral.

The Bishop of Newcastle is holding a consultation in May with the Cathedral Chapter, the congregations and community leaders to discern the future direction of the Cathedral’s ministry and a profile of the leadership required in the next Dean.

The Bishop of Newcastle nominates to the Cathedral Chapter who elect the Dean.

Ministry Team Leader

St Alban's Parish, Muswellbrook

The Anglican Parish of Muswellbrook has an exciting position available as Ministry Team Leader of the St Alban’s Ministry Centre. 

The Ministry Centre exists to provide a ministry which is able to reach out to the community in a practical and serving way, as a living example of Jesus’ love.  The Centre is currently undergoing significant change and refurbishment, and we are looking for a dynamic individual who is passionate about creating and leading the Centre in accordance with the vision, mission and values of the Parish. 

In particular, the Team Leader will provide leadership across a diverse range of services including pastoral care ministries, a recycling shop, bookstore, emergency relief, hospitality and meeting room facilities.  Reporting to the Board, he/she will be responsible for managing a team of volunteers, implementing all required policies and procedures (including Occupational Health & Safety), as well as the management of financial systems and processes.

We are looking for an exceptional individual who displays competence in a number of areas including team leadership, developing partnerships, resilience and communication – underpinned by a strong Christian faith.  Experience in social work, counselling and/or ministry activities would be well regarded, as would an open-ness to ongoing development of theological literacy.
