In April & August this year CEY will be hosting our first annual ‘Stand Out Leadership Training Weekends’ for anyone interested in learning about leadership with young people in the Anglican Church. These two weekends will be based on practical and spiritual leadership techniques and strategies to help you make the most out of not only yourself, but also all of the resources at your disposal: the ones you know of – and the ones you don’t. Our hope is to help you build your ministry by equipping you with practical skills you can take back to your church or youth group to positively influence the young people in your area. So often in churches people see a need and want to contribute, but think that it’s not their place, or they think “I don’t have any experience in that area so what could I do?” ‘Stand Out’ is about starting at the beginning, talking about what is possible, giving you techniques and strategies to plan and grow things that are achievable and reflecting on the amazing calling on our church to reach out to young people in our communities and share Christ’s story with them. Who are they for?‘Stand Out Leadership Training Weekends' are for anyone involved in youth ministry in the Anglican Diocese of Newcastle. Whether you’re a youth group leader, junior or assistant leader, someone who’s been discerned by your parish for children’s & youth ministry or just someone who has a passion for young people: these weekends are for you! Some of the Topics we'll cover are...
Our SpeakerJon Thorpe I have been with Youthworks for 18 months. Before that I was doing youth ministry in sunny Greenacre. In the time I was there I was responsible for starting the children's, youth and young adult ministries. It was a fantastic time and I will really miss being part of it. Before that I was at Moore College and before that I was on the full time staff at Teen Ranch doing evangelistic camping ministry. I am married to Sarah and we now have 3 kids!(we have just had a little boy Matthew). We now attend Norwest Anglican which is great and we're looking forward to serving there as part of the congregation. I mostly spend my free time with the family going to the zoo or down at the beach. Every now and again I get out to the race track and take the motorbike for a blast (GSXR750 for those who know, or care) I'm am loving working with the Western Region church and getting involved with the Youthworks college and Youthsurge. I hope that my experience in ministry will be useful to you as you serve our Lord and Saviour in your area. how do I register?Click here to download a registration form.
